The purpose of the Hackathon is to demonstrate your problem-solving and technical skills in Spotfire by working with real-world problems, specifically in the geothermal energy industry.

Please fill out your details on our registration form. Once you have been approved by our team, we will email you with further instructions. If your registration is not approved, our team will let you know by email. Please review the Rules and Participation Guidelines before registering.

Once your registration is approved, we will email over complete details. On May 6, 2025, at 9 AM CT, we will send out official instructions and data to kick off the event. We will not share data details ahead of our kick-off time to ensure everyone has the same amount of time to complete the exercise. You will be expected to submit a .dxp along with a slides presentation detailing your submission by the time of completion on May 13, 2025, at 11:59 PM CT. 

You have one week to complete the Hackathon, starting at 9:00 AM CT on May 6, 2025, and ending at 11:59 PM on May 13, 2025. Our team will email you the dataset and instructions on May 6 at 9:00 AM, and you have until May 13 to submit your dxp and presentation. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered for the rankings or prizes.

You will need access to a Spotfire® Analyst license (a Consumer license will not be able to build). You will need to use your own version of Spotfire. We will not provide one. You can download a free trial here.

Yes, you can use custom or downloaded extensions and add-ons within Spotfire to complete the Hackathon. You may also use the Spotfire Copilot AI tool.

We are awarding three Amazon gift cards for 1st ($500), 2nd ($400), and 3rd place ($300). We will notify winners by email first of their rankings on May 19th. You will receive your gift card by the email you register with after the event has ended, likely within 60 days.

No, one submission per user. We expect you to put together the .dxp submission on your own and not in teams. Any user seeking outside help or working in terms will be ineligible to win.

Yes, to be eligible, please register for a free account on the Spotfire Community. The Spotfire Energy Forum Community Hackathon is exclusive to Spotfire Community members.

No, we are running this Hackathon in alignment with our annual energy forum in Houston, but all eligible Spotfire users can sign up for the Hackathon outside of the energy forum. Winners will be announced in person at the forum if they are in attendance. If you’d like to learn more about the Spotfire Energy Forum, see here.

Yes, if they meet the Eligibility Criteria.

You are more than welcome to participate in the Hackathon if you don’t meet the eligibility criteria, but you will not be able to win the prizes. Eligibility Criteria are listed in our Rules and Participation Guidelines.

We will email you details on how to submit once you are registered and approved. Submissions will be collected either via a Google Form or by email if the file is too large.
