RULES for the 2025 Spotfire Energy Forum Hackathon
Participation in the The 2025 Spotfire Energy Forum Hackathon (“Hackathon”) constitutes Participant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these rules (“Official Rules”).
1. Sponsor. The Hackathon is sponsored by Cloud Software Group, Inc., 851 W. Cypress Creek Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 (“Sponsor”).
2. Timing. The Hackathon begins at 9:00 am (CT) on May 6, 2025, and ends at 11:59 pm (CT) on May 13, 2025.
3. Eligibility. You must be a Spotfire Community (https://community.spotfire.com/) member in order to participate in the Hackathon. Further, the Hackathon is only open to legal residents of Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada (excluding the Quebec Province), France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States of America who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry (except in the case of legal residents of Alabama, Delaware, Mississippi, Nebraska or other states in the United States) or jurisdictions where the age of majority is greater than eighteen (18) years of age, such age of majority. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. Employees, independent contractors, officers, and directors of Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, the judging panel, and the immediate family members and persons living in the same household of such persons or other persons are not eligible to win prizes in the Hackathon. Prizes will be awarded only as permitted under applicable laws and regulations, including any gift or ethics limitations governing the public sector. Even if you are not eligible to win, you are welcome to participate, and by participating, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules. All national, provincial, regional, municipal, and local laws and regulations apply. Government employees and their families are also prohibited from participation in the Hackathon. Participation in the Hackathon is not permitted where such participation is prohibited by law.
4. Methods of Entry. You must register for the Hackathon by first being a Spotfire Community member and then completing a registration form at https://events.spotfire.com/sef-community-hackathon-2025. All registration forms must be completed in their entirety. Upon registration, you will receive an email confirmation registering you for the Hackathon as well as providing details around the requirements for submission. You, as an individual, will have one (1) week, starting from when the data set is emailed out at 9AM CT on May 6, 2025, to create a .dxp file that addresses the Hackathon problem. To enter, You must submit the .dxp file together with a slide deck that explains the Hackathon solution ("Entry"), no later than 11:59 pm (CT) on May 13, 2025, via a Google Form found at [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hvrv0A7b0FtQB0dnk0BUuGq8HquBG6AZWhmpZHeJsbA/viewform?edit_requested=true]. Each participant ("Participant") agrees to grant to Sponsor the license rights as set forth in the Participation Agreement. Any Entry not complying with the above entry requirements will not be eligible for any prize.
5. Entry Requirements. By submitting Your Entry, You warrant that you are authorized to submit the Entry. You also warrant and represent that the Entry (including but not limited to source code, object code, artwork, and all visual and auditory components): (a) is an original work; (b) has not been previously published, sold, or submitted in any other competition, hackathon, promotion, or contest; c) does not infringe the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity; (d) does not contain any information considered to be confidential by any person or entity; and (e) was not developed in any substantive form prior to the Hackathon, although ideation, research and material gatherings are permitted prior to the Hackathon. You further agree that Your Entry complies with the licenses controlling any third party components that are included in the Entry (e.g., components that you did not write, including data from https://utahforge.com/project-data-dashboard/, which, except as otherwise noted on the utahforge.com website, are subject to the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License), including by incorporating any required license notices and license text, and that any such third party components are subject to licenses (if any) that allow for free, unlimited use and distribution, and modification without restriction, and furthermore may not include licenses (including but not limited to the Affero General Public License and GNU General Public License) which require mandatory reciprocal contribution of modifications to the code. In the event that you utilize artificial intelligence (“AI”) in any respect (e.g., GitHub Copilot), you warrant that you have ensured that the output of any such AI tool does not infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of any other party. Any Entry not complying with the above entry requirements will not be eligible for any prize.
6. Judging. Each Entry must meet the requirements specified in Sections 4 and 5. Each Entry must be virus-free. Entries that contain any content that is pornographic in nature, lewd, or sexually explicit, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, will be disqualified. Any non-conforming Entries will be disqualified. After each Entry is screened for compliance with the entry requirements, it will be judged by an independent panel of judges selected by the Sponsor. The judges’ decisions are final and binding. The entries shall be judged on a points system based on the criteria set forth below:

Entries from all countries will be combined, and three (3) winners will be selected based on the total points awarded to each Entry. The Entry with the highest point total will be the First Place Winner. The Entry with the second highest point total will be the Second Place Winner, and the third highest point total being the Third Place Winner.
7. Prizes. The winners will receive the following prizes:

- “ Second Place Winner “ USD 400 Amazon Gift Card
- “ Third Place Winner “ USD 300 Amazon Gift Card
Sponsor may substitute prizes in their sole discretion. Prizes are non-assignable and non-transferable. Sponsor reserves the right to withhold applicable taxes, but payment of all applicable taxes are the sole responsibility of each winner. You will be required to provide proof of eligibility prior to award of a prize.
8. Copyright Ownership. By submitting an Entry, You warrant that You are the sole developer, creator, and owner of the material contained in the Entry (including but not limited to source code, object code, artwork, and all visual and auditory components), or has permission to use such material (including all copyrighted components) for purposes of the Hackathon, and further warrants that such material does not contain information considered by Your place of business or any other third party to be confidential.
9. Winner Notification. Each eligible Entry will be reviewed and evaluated by the judges and Sponsor will notify the winners via email on May 19, 2025. If a selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim the prize, or fails to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected in accordance with these Official Rules. Winners will be required to sign and return a declaration of eligibility, and, where lawful, a publicity consent agreement as a condition of receiving the prize. If a selected winner fails to return in a timely manner the completed and executed declaration and consent as required, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner selected.
10. Winner List. The winners list (with winning Entries) will be posted on the Spotfire Community website and announced at the Spotfire Energy Forum event on May 20, 2025.
11. General Terms and Conditions. Sponsor is not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (a) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind (b) failed, incomplete, partial, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; (c) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor that may cause the Hackathon to be disrupted or corrupted; (d) any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of a prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of a prize, or from participation in the Hackathon; (e) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Hackathon; (f) any regional, state, provincial or local laws or regulations violated during the creation of the entries by the Participant(s). Sponsor reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or modify the Hackathon if fraud or technical failure corrupts the administration, security, or proper play of the Hackathon, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to modify the Official Rules and to modify or terminate the Hackathon in its entirety at any time and at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Should the Official Rules be modified or the Hackathon be modified or terminated prior to the stated end date, notice will be posted at the Hackathon registration website [https://events.spotfire.com/sef-community-hackathon-2025].
Participant agrees to release and hold Sponsor harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, and actions of any kind in connection with the Hackathon or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize, including without limitation, personal injury, death, property damage, and claims based upon intellectual property infringement, publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Unless prohibited by law, Sponsor’s liability shall be limited to USD 50.00.
Participant agrees that Sponsor’s only obligation is to judge the Entries according to the procedures and criteria set forth in these Official Rules, and award the prizes set forth herein only to eligible winners, subject to the terms and conditions herein. Participant agrees that Sponsor’s obligation is fair and adequate consideration for any entry submitted, and that Participant is not entitled to and shall not seek any further compensation.
Participant acknowledges and consents to Sponsor’s or third parties (on behalf of Sponsor) taking photos or making recordings, including but not limited to audio, video, and/or photographic recordings (“Images”) and publication of the Entries. Sponsor may, at its sole discretion, edit, mix, and/or transfer in whole or in part, any such Images to productions (“Productions”) for advertising and promotional purposes. Participant gives his or her consent for Sponsor to use and reproduce Participant’s name, likeness and/or image without additional compensation in any medium, now known or hereafter devised, for advertising and promotional purposes worldwide in perpetuity, except as prohibited by law. Participant furthermore agrees that, by submitting an Entry, he or she allows Sponsor to use the registration contact information for emailing newsletters and promotional material.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of Participant and Sponsor in connection with the Hackathon, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of Florida any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Florida.
